I will buy you a garden / where your flowers can bloom

Surely by now everyone knows about browser-safe color, but Lynda’s layout is a great place to remind yourself if you forget; and I got my boss to print it out for me on his color printer so now my webbery can proceed unimpaired by my poor memory for hex—I just taped the chart above my monitor.
Dears, I have pretty much given up on trying to blog. My new creative endeavor is writing a long short story (which seems contradictory, but) for my colleague’s class in transgenre writing—and I’m also working on my 100+ page manuscript of elegies, in the interstices of avoiding working on the long short story, which maybe I should just start calling the long story. I had them all in typescript but am now typing them into my new PowerBook (about which, see last entry) and making changes as I go. I’m most pleased with the fact that I can save all my writings as PDF files and so proceed to email them to people safe in the knowledge that no one will be able to tamper with my linebreaks, font, or layout. Woo, as they say, hoo.
I’m also busy teaching two classes, Basic English II and Composition I, and experimenting with transformative or critical pedagogy—trying to establish a democratic classroom and shake the foundations of power, or something. Mostly, I’d like not to have to fail three-fourths of the class. In addition to teaching, I’m doing publicity for the grant, which means getting a webpage up and doing some faculty/adminstration rabblerousing with the aid of the hateful PowerPoint.
And my final consuming project: trying to get another two pages of poetry published so that I’ll be eligible to apply for an NEA. With the silly shaped poem “zafu” coming out on the Tricycle website, I’ll have 18, but need 20. So will start sending poems to monthly online magazines, with no more inane “I’m holding out for Ploughshares” snobbery. I ain’t got time to bleed—the deadline is March 12.
But today is only Friday, and I’m headed back to browser-safe colors and a mock-up of the site. The back of my mind swimming in those colors, thinking about flowers that bloom. One more month of true February winter, and then….
