how to pronounce “samhain”

I’ve always said SAH-win—since I was about seven, that is, and was taught the word—but these people from the Black Phoenix forums have lots of thoughts about something called voiced bilabial fricatives. It all makes my head hurt, post-big extravagant spending on $95 pair of Josef Seibel Maximes, with free shipping! Oh, the free shipping is what gets me into trouble every time; it’s that “free” word.

The DBT Therapist asked if I had problems with impulsive spending, and this I staunchly denied. Of course I would still have my Josef Seibels were it not for a frivolous midnight excursion up Atalaya.

for this and other Pagan words, I usually rely on “The Pagan Talking Dictionary”, “Samhain” is at http://www.thestonepentacle.com/project/words/samhain/pronounce-samhain.html ; the dictionary itself is at http://dictionary.thestonepentacle.com
