If we ever had any doubts about whether ending a marriage could benefit a woman immensely, we should reread this unintentionally triumphant 1966 article on Joni Mitchell’s first, and very young, matrimonial foray, which lasted officially I think about three years. Her husband was also a folk singer, of whom no one ever heard again. And it’s verified by many sources: Chuck Mitchell was Richard—as in, Richard got married to a figure skater. Though I don’t actually know whether Chuck remarried; or, if he did, to whom.
