an open letter to UT–Austin
Wednesday 17 January 2007 | I like a cookie
Dear busy people who open the many, many envelopes:
During the long sleepless interval since Dr. King’s birthday, I have had ample opportunity to read the entire MCW website, which is quite explicit about the fact that no one will have time to answer any questions about my application. Yet I, haunted, persist in wondering—did my particular envelope arrive on time, or was it among the many one-day-late envelopes which were filed in the Great Circular File? And if it was lost, will I receive a rejection letter in March, or before, or never?
These are questions one cannot answer at 5:30 a.m. in New Mexico. Yet their unfathomability makes them no less pressing upon one’s soul. I hope you are all well and are managing to cope with the many envelopes. Thank you for all your time and hard work—
Yours insomniacally, the Unnarrator
