Ms. Pyewacket, that is, who slept and drooled for most of the twelve-hour drive home, only beginning to yowl plaintively somewhere around Clines Corners. She seems to be adjusting fine, other than a tendency to follow me closely from room to room (so closely that she’s already been tripped over and stepped upon multiple times; sometimes she hisses proleptically) and the fact that she doesn’t seem to be using the litter pan, which, after 48 hours, has me a little nervous (what is she using?). We are transitioning, and it has its hard moments; for me, thoughts of Eloise are never far, along with their inevitable troubling comparisons. For her part, Pye seems disgruntled at times, flicking her tail irritatedly, perhaps because she’s not receiving her accustomed hourly snack of tinned condensed milk. (She’s definitely a ratna type, as far as the wisdom energies go—she woke me this morning with many tentative yet earnest Hey-lady-it’s-breakfast-time kisses.) But we will settle in, are settling in. She’s getting used to the routine. And maybe I will, too.

Her face bears a striking resemblance to our Mocha. (Unfortunately, Mocha is not in the holiday photo which I fortunately just mailed to you. Finally.)

She looks so much like my Bernard. Makes me sad.
