hipy papy bithuthday! to mandarin

Especially for her jour de naissance, I provide these highly irrelevant and inappropriate but very Mandarin birthday pictures of my parents’ new kitten Pepper, recently found in the middle of the two-lane blacktop in pouring rain, with a mockingbird dive-bombing her head. I don’t know how long after this ordeal these portraits were taken, but you gotta admit, she is one funny-looking feline.

Mlle Mandarin, darling, I don’t know what I would do without you in my world. (Quite likely just walk around the house talking to you anyway.) You saved my day yesterday and have done so a zillion times before and will probably have to do so a zillion times again. Thank God for unlimited long distance, for your beloved precious intelligent hilarious (”I always have to drive the car and you never fuck me!”) serene savvy sane fussbudgety foot-stomping laughing life-loving self—please stay on this weird little planet for many more years to come. And if you repair to a cave in China to stare at the wall for twelve years, may it somehow also have high-speed Internet. With love and squalor always—LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE CHALES
