once upon a time there was a blogger….

Who thought she would go back to grad school. And move to Phoenix. And teach two classes and take three classes. And read submissions for the literary magazine, and take a special week-long workshop with CD Wright, and give a poetry reading, and apply for a fellowship to spend the Christmas break in Oaxaca, and apply to teach a special topics course next year, and take care of a cat and a dog and a lawn and a three-bedroom house. And read Borges and Günther Grass and Jim Crace and Denis Johnson and Henry James and Kafka and David Markson and several dozen others, you know, just for kicks. And create some weird proto-surrealist art for her magical realism class, which is having an art show tomorrow, and so I never blog any more, or sleep, or eat off a plate except when the Brujo cooks, as he did tonight, pasta with crab meat in a cream sauce, and I’ve started drinking coffee, which is so deeply shocking in so many ways I can’t even begin to address them all; and yet so I did somehow manage to make some art, by cutting my office hours today (thereby pissing off one conscientious female student) and skipping my poetry workshop; and here it is. Perhaps somehow representative of my mental state, or living in a red state. Or perhaps I’ve just read too much Kafka. Or not enough. Or something.

NB by the way that if you do not select an avatar one will be dictatorially assigned to you. And it may not be all that pretty. I'm just saying.
