one reason why I love my lunette

(A post in which she bravely blogs about her menstrual cup! Although that phrase was difficult to type, thinking of all the various former others who might read it. Oh well, it’s rather too late to care what they think now.)
So about three months ago, I spent somewhere in the neighborhood of €35 (and yes it took me several tries to make the little euro symbol) (it’s option+shift+2; I know the £ sign, option+3, from days of yore—though my old Mac came from the UK in 1995 and actually had a £ where the $ normally is, which I loved) (where was I) (estrogen-depleted) (right—)

—and purchased a Lunette, which is a reusable medical-grade silicon cup made in Finland. It should last me the rest of my womanly life. I chose it over its slightly cheaper American equivalent the DivaCup, or British counterpart the Mooncup, because it’s known for being very small and very soft, both of which seemed like good things to a skittish nulliparous me at the time. (The red-and-yellow paper thing with a fox face on it, by the way, is a weird Finnish sweet they sent with it—kind of like Turkish delight, only not Turkish.)
In retrospect I think I subconsciously chose the Lunette because I sensed its delightfully untranslated Finnish-to-Engrish website would give me hours of amusement and joy. And now I share it with you: “kuukuppi.com e-store - the most ecolocigal and convenient way to be woman!”

And now I must finish doing Real and Important Tasks in preparation for the any-minute-now advent of the Singer Featherweight; and thus very likely the next post will be all sewing machine sewing machine sewing machine. I confess I kind of thrill to the idea that perhaps snobby readers are rolling their eyes and wondering whether I don’t have anything better to do with my brain-the-size-of-a-planet than dwell upon my uterus. And the answer is patently: No, I don’t. But I think it might be the wrong preposition: dwell in, not on? Or is that sophistry. Or do I really care. Hyvää joulua, everyone!

Hey, you’re officially a braver blogger than me, even if you are not any crunchier (though sewing your own — yeah, crunchy points there). But maybe I was just hypnotized by bobbin animation! Wow!
Well, you have made me start investigating alternatives. I think I am going to start with cloth pads, because I did cloth diapers with my boys and that was not as difficult as everyone claimed. I always seem to get a rash from commercial pads. I also use Instead at the moment, and that is not very environmentally friendly, so was looking at the Diva Cup. Please post your thoughts on the Lunette- I may change my mind :)
I love my DivaCup! I spent many happy, if occasionally painful, years with a Keeper, and I find silicone so much more comfortable than the Keeper’s natural rubber. I am not opposed to Lunette, seeing that it’s also silicone. I do feel the Diva’s capacity serves me very well when at work or Zen, when it’s not so very convenient to access my nether regions for many many hours at a stretch. The Diva holds me almost all day when conventional means (mega-tampons & disposable pads) would saturate in under two hours. Also it is grand for cycling: no string to cut off to avoid chafing along with greatly increased capacity.
